Role

The Charter Cities Institute is hiring an Operations Manager to work under the Executive Director. The Operations Manager will be responsible for helping to develop processes, handle administrative tasks, and streamline growth for the Charter Cities Institute. This role is best suited for an ambitious, talented person as the role will incorporate strategic decision making as the Operations Manager proves their value.

Responsibilities of Operations Manager

  • Expenses: preparing and processing reimbursements
  • Meetings support: coordinating internal and external meetings, distributing agendas, minute taking, and following up
  • Events: Helping with logistics, contracts, vendors, and travel arrangements
  • File management: managing/updating/organizing our shared drive
  • Handle incoming operations-related email requests, phone calls and mail
  • Updating social media and uploading blogs, podcasts, research, etc to the website
  • Payment processing for external third parties
  • Develop and track annual budget and ensure that expenditures are in line with expectations
  • Work with the Executive Director to evaluate and improve processes
  • As the role progresses, the Operations Manager will be encouraged and expected to take initiative in improving existing and introducing new processes and procedures
  • Working with external contractors to ensure that content — e.g. annual report, Charter Cities Handbook, Podcast — being produced by the Charter Cities Institute is of the highest quality

Background

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in economics or international development
  • The ideal candidate has cut their teeth in a junior role, 2-4 years, in a fast paced, corporate environment, e.g. management consulting, investment banking, and is willing to trade off some salary to work on something that matters

The Charter Cities Institute greatly values our office culture. Our staff is intellectually curious and enjoys exploring a wide variety of topics, not all of which are directly related to charter cities. We're a small team, so we frequently go out to lunch as a group, and get drinks together a handful of times per month (this is not required). Candidates should feel comfortable bringing their whole selves to work.
